Our Story - A Journey from Seeking to Serving

Early Life and Struggles:

Tyler Decker’s early years were marked by a challenging upbringing in a broken home. Despite these difficulties, he had a deep-seated desire to know God. His sporadic encounters with the Bible and church services only highlighted the reality of sin and its consequences, leaving him with unanswered questions and a lack of understanding about biblical salvation. When he sought answers from friends and family, he was often reassured without being shown how to be saved from the punishment of his sins. The tumultuous period following his mother’s divorce further intensified his search for answers, leading him into a deep depression.

Meeting Kendra and the Search for Truth:

Tyler’s life took a significant turn when he met his wife, Kendra, who was raised as a Jehovah’s Witness in a similarly broken family. Kendra also greatly desired to know God but was hindered by her family from going to the Kingdom Halls to further her journey in the Jehovah’s Witness religion. In hindsight, it is clear that this was the providence of God leading her to biblical salvation. Their differing religious backgrounds led to frequent arguments and an urgent need for clarity. In a bid to resolve these conflicts and disprove Kendra’s beliefs, Tyler turned to the internet for answers. During his research, Tyler began to understand that not only was Kendra wrong, but he also realized that he himself was wrong. His research led him to the REAL Bible Believers channel, where he found clear teachings on scripture and salvation.

Transformation and Conversion:

In late 2017 to early 2018, Tyler’s life was transformed after listening to a sermon on Romans 5:8-9, which elucidated God’s love and the justification through Christ’s blood. The verses that changed his life read:

“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.” (Romans 5:8-9)

This understanding led him to become a born-again Christian in Portland, OR. His newfound faith brought about a radical change in his life, surprising those who knew him before. Initially, Tyler built his knowledge of Bible doctrine by studying Bible believers online while doing his best to evangelize.

It took Kendra about eight months to embrace salvation. One night, burdened and confused by her sin, she was watching online and saw a very descriptive story about Cain and Abel. Cain relied on his own efforts for God's approval, while Abel relied on the blood of the lamb. Although she didn’t get saved right away, this was a turning point in her understanding of biblical salvation. Conversations with Tyler hadn’t clarified things for her as that story did. Shortly afterward, she found herself in her room and, in prayer, called out to the Lord for salvation, fully understanding His blood atonement for her. She then immediately dove into the Bible with new eyes.

Call to Ministry:

Tyler and Kendra’s spiritual journey continued as they became active members of a Bible-believing church in Hillsboro, OR. Tyler felt a strong calling to the gospel ministry, inspired by Jeremiah 1:4-10, which spoke to him deeply about his purpose. The verses read:

“Then the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations. Then said I, Ah, Lord GOD! behold, I cannot speak: for I am a child. But the LORD said unto me, Say not, I am a child: for thou shalt go to all that I shall send thee, and whatsoever I command thee thou shalt speak. Be not afraid of their faces: for I am with thee to deliver thee, saith the LORD. Then the LORD put forth his hand, and touched my mouth. And the LORD said unto me, Behold, I have put my words in thy mouth. See, I have this day set thee over the nations and over the kingdoms, to root out, and to pull down, and to destroy, and to throw down, to build, and to plant.” (Jeremiah 1:4-10)

This calling led him to enroll in Pensacola Bible Institute in 2020 for further training.

Mission in Utah:

During a cross-country journey to Pensacola, a stop in Salt Lake City, UT, stirred Tyler’s spirit, reminiscent of Paul’s experience in Athens (Acts 17:16). The verse states:

“Now while Paul waited for them at Athens, his spirit was stirred in him, when he saw the city wholly given to idolatry.” (Acts 17:16)

This experience, coupled with a prayerful encounter, solidified his calling to serve in Utah. Reflecting on Matthew 9:38, he prayed:

“Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.” (Matthew 9:38)

To which he felt the Lord respond, “What about you, Tyler?”

Isaiah 41:17-20 provided further confirmation, symbolically aligning with the spiritual thirst and potential for revival in the region. The verses read:

“When the poor and needy seek water, and there is none, and their tongue faileth for thirst, I the LORD will hear them, I the God of Israel will not forsake them. I will open rivers in high places, and fountains in the midst of the valleys: I will make the wilderness a pool of water, and the dry land springs of water. I will plant in the wilderness the cedar, the shittah tree, and the myrtle, and the oil tree; I will set in the desert the fir tree, and the pine, and the box tree together: That they may see, and know, and consider, and understand together, that the hand of the LORD hath done this, and the Holy One of Israel hath created it.” (Isaiah 41:17-20)

The mention of the cedar tree in the passage, along with other personal indicators, directed him to Cedar City.
